The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced a major political alliance in Tamil Nadu as part of its preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah outlining the party’s coalition strategy and campaign roadmap.
Addressing party workers and supporters during his visit to the state, Amit Shah confirmed that the BJP will contest the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls as part of a strengthened alliance under the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The alliance is expected to include key regional partners, with the objective of mounting a united challenge to the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) led government.
Shah described the upcoming election as a decisive political battle, stating that the NDA would fight the polls on issues of governance, development, and corruption. He alleged that the current DMK government has failed to deliver transparent administration and accused it of encouraging corruption and misrule. According to him, voters are seeking an alternative that focuses on development, infrastructure and efficient governance.
Highlighting the BJP’s national growth, Shah said the party aims to expand its footprint in southern India by working closely with strong regional allies in Tamil Nadu. He stressed that unity among alliance partners would be crucial to counter the DMK’s dominance and present a credible alternative government.
The BJP leadership indicated that seat sharing talks within the alliance are ongoing and will be finalised well ahead of the elections. The alliance plans to contest the polls with a common agenda that addresses employment, economic growth, welfare delivery, and law and order.
The announcement comes at a time when Tamil Nadu’s political landscape is becoming increasingly active, with all major parties intensifying their outreach and campaign preparations. The ruling DMK has also stepped up its election efforts, focusing on welfare schemes and governance achievements.
Political observers believe the BJP’s renewed alliance strategy reflects its broader ambition to strengthen its presence in southern states and reshape the state’s electoral dynamics. With the Assembly elections approaching, Tamil Nadu is expected to witness a high intensity political contest between the NDA alliance and the DMK led front.
