RBI Warns Public Against Fake Messages on Unclaimed Deposits

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued a public advisory cautioning citizens about the rise of fake messages and fraudulent communication related to unclaimed bank deposits. The central bank clarified that deposits lying inactive for more than 10 years can be traced and claimed Only through the official RBI portal and not through any third party websites or links.

According to the RBI, Cybercriminals are circulating deceptive messages impersonating banks or the central bank, urging people to click on suspicious links or share personal financial information. The regulator emphasized that it Never sends unsolicited links or requests for sensitive details such as Bank account numbers, Passwords or OTPs.

The official portal for checking unclaimed deposits is the UDGAM platform designed to help customers locate their long inactive accounts across multiple banks. RBI advised citizens to avoid interacting with unverified messages and to directly visit their bank branch if they receive any suspicious communication.

The central bank also reiterated that the Only authentic source of information regarding banking procedures is its official website.

Authorities have urged victims of cyber fraud to report incidents Immediately as prompt action can increase the chances of freezing or recovering lost funds. Citizens can contact the national cybercrime helpline at 1930 or file complaints online through the government’s portal.

With digital fraud cases on the rise, the RBI has urged the public to exercise caution and follow safe online practices.
