Telangana’s “Telangana Rising 2047” Roadmap Aims Big

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has unveiled a far reaching development roadmap called Telangana Rising 2047. The plan aims to transform Hyderabad into a “gateway to the world” and put Telangana on the global map, with a target of becoming a US$ 1 trillion economy by 2035 and US$ 3 trillion by 2047.

Key Initiatives

  • New Airports in Warangal and Adilabad: To improve connectivity and decongest Hyderabad, two greenfield airports are proposed in Warangal and Adilabad.
  • Industrial Corridors and Infrastructure: Plans include setting up industrial corridors connecting Hyderabad to Nagpur, Bengaluru, and Vijayawada. Dry ports, more radial roads linking outer and regional ring roads, upgraded highways and expanded metro networks are part of the blueprint.
  • Musi River Rejuvenation: The CM emphasized rejuvenating the Musi River, aiming to revive the riverfront, ensure fresh water flow (including use of Godavari water), and use the area for cultural, recreational, and nightlife economies.
  • Bharat Future City & Urban Development: The vision includes a futuristic urban hub called “Bharat Future City,” greenfield highways, dry ports, and expanded public infrastructure to support a modern, livable, global standard city.
  • Night Economy & Cultural Landmarks: Part of the plan is to promote economic activity that extends beyond day hours, building grand religious and cultural structures for all communities, and establishing iconic gateways such as one at Gandhi Sarovar.

Goals & Vision

  • The roadmap is meant to align Telangana with India’s broader goal of becoming a global economic power by 2047.
  • It seeks to increase Telangana’s contribution to the national GDP significantly, leveraging infrastructure, agriculture, industry, and technology.

Implications & Challenges

  • Land Acquisition & Resettlement: Many of these projects will require large land parcels. The government has promised fair compensation and dignified resettlement for landowners and farmers.
  • Funding & Partnerships: Implementation will require significant investment both from the state, central government, and private partnerships. Managing finances and ensuring timely execution will be critical.
  • Environmental Concerns: Projects like river rejuvenation require careful ecological planning, especially water management and sustainable infrastructure.
  • Citizen Participation: The CM called on citizens to support the initiatives, emphasizing that development should be inclusive.

What to Watch Next

  • Release of the full vision document (set to be unveiled by December 9, 2025) which will give detailed project timelines and implementation strategies.
  • Progress on early projects, especially Musi rejuvenation, airport development, and industrial corridors.
  • How infrastructure changes (road, metro, ring roads) impact landowners and urban planning.
  • Public response especially from farmers and people likely to be affected, along with environmental groups.
