In a development that has stirred political circles, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday revealed that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) report has implicated the wife of a sitting Member of Parliament in connections with an alleged anti-India cartel.
The SIT, set up to probe organized networks suspected of working against national interests, submitted its findings earlier this week. According to Sarma, the report highlights the role of several individuals, including the MP’s wife, in supporting activities deemed to be hostile to India’s security and sovereignty.
“This is a serious matter. When the family of an elected representative is found to be linked with such networks, it raises big questions of accountability and integrity,” Sarma said while addressing the media. He further added that the government would review the report in detail and consider all legal options available.
Though the Chief Minister did not disclose the MP’s identity, sources indicate that the SIT has gathered documentary and digital evidence, which is now under legal examination. Officials stressed that no names would be made public until investigations are completed to avoid political controversies and possible misuse of the findings.
The revelation has triggered intense debate in Assam’s political corridors, with opposition leaders demanding transparency and the release of the full report. Meanwhile, security agencies are said to be closely monitoring the alleged network to prevent any further breaches.
The SIT probe was ordered earlier this year amid rising concerns over cross border influence and the activities of groups accused of destabilizing the region. With the new revelations, pressure is mounting on the authorities to act swiftly and ensure accountability at the highest levels.
